The Specific Features and Common Applications of the Flir E6-XT

In the world of thermal imaging, we oftentimes think that the camera with a higher resolution makes for a better one. Whilst you are not completely in the wrong, you are not right either. There are multiple factors that affect the quality of the image and the sharpness of one, like the camera sensor or the pixel count. We are not going to enter the technicalities here but instead discuss the features and applications of a thermal camera that showed others how it’s done, which is the E6-XT made by Flir. Let’s jump straight into this.

Features

One of the most unique features of this device is that you can etch certain details in real time, thanks to the enhanced MSX (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging) technology, which makes target location and reporting easier. With the Flir E6, you have a PiP (picture-in-picture) mode with cold/ hot area spot measurements. The resolution of the 3.5 ” screen is 160 x 120 which gives the user exactly 19,200 temperature points.

The FLIR Tools software allows you to create, analyze and edit reports and sent them over a Wi-Fi connection or through the mobile app – you can do the same with images. The camera of the E6 is focus free which allows for a better true point and focus shooting and stored images are fully-radiometric. This device also has a very accurate reading at +/- 2°C or +/- 2% whilst having a rechargeable battery and fast download speeds when using the USB cable.

There are different measurement modes that come with the E6 allowing you to make it truly your own. If for example, you are not a fan of using the centre spot (which is the go-to option for most users) you can have a floating hot spot. With this option, you have additional information show up as it also has a box on the screen that displays the highest temperature. This camera, like the rest of its predecessors, is capable of sustaining a 2-metre drop.

Applications

This thermal imaging device is capable of detecting air leaks, finding mould and rot and discovering HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning) related problems. You can even use the Flir E6 to find any electrical issues, missing insulation or check for pest infestation. It can also be used for IR inspections and creating simple reports for building diagnostics and it can actually help make better weather protection in one. You can even find hidden building problems like water build-up or water-caused damage.
